Getting Started with Axoloti, the Book

#1

Since the community is very new, and there aren't a lot of resources available to get started with patching, I've decided to write a book about Axoloti.

The book will teach you how to create basic synthesizers, drum machines and audio effects. These are the chapters I've planned. The first chapter is available as a free sample.

  • Chapter 1: Creating Your First Synthesizer
  • Chapter 2: Creating a Polyphonic Synthesizer
  • Chapter 3: Diving into Sound Design
  • Chapter 4: Creating Drum Machines
  • Chapter 5: Creating Audio Effects
  • Chapter 6: Adding Physical Controls

The book will be self-published via Leanpub. Working without a publisher will allow me to keep the book more affordable.

Enough talking for now. Get the book over here: https://leanpub.com/getting-started-with-axoloti/

I've just published Chapter 2 of the book. The first chapter is still available as a free sample. If you want to read the second chapter, you'll have to buy the book.

#5

Thanks for that, I just purchased the book smile

#6

Eh. Decided to purchase it too. Thanks!

#7

if i buy the book now, i will get the complete version in the future?

#8

@Metallo @kausto Thanks for buying the book.

@urbanspaceman Yes, you will get the complete version. I'm planning to publish a new chapter every month, so the book will be finished by the end of the year. You will get an updated version every time I publish a new chapter.

Hej Jan smile

Nice book I did read first chapter. I was wondering if you have any plans to write about making your own objects from scratch? Would be really interested in that smile

#10

I don't have any plans to write about custom objects at the moment. The book is for people who just get started with Axoloti, and want to learn about patching. Creating custom objects is a way too advanced topic.

#11

Thanks @janvantomme wink

#12

+1 for custom object

#13

Thanks for the answer.

Yeah it is a different level that using the objects that comes with Axoloti. Coming from Nord G2 I am very familiar with many of the objects and how to set them up, though still learning how to work Axoloti, specifically.

I just feel like I want to dive deeper into it. I want to dive deeper than it was possible on the G2.

Anyway, I already got a few tips on how to get started, so will start of with alot of reading smile

just purchased as well smile

#15

Let me know when the book is availiable!

best,

The book is available now, it's just not finished yet. If you buy it on leanpub, you will get an updated version every time I publish a new chapter, or make edits.

#17

Also supported the cause for this nice introduction manual.

When can we expect the next update? :innocent:

#18

What I would like to see is a list of all the objects with practical examples of how to use them. There's so much in there that I don't have a clue about.

#19

Chapter 3 is almost finished. It just needs some editing, so it will be available next week.

Most objects have examples. Click the triangle on the object and choose help. If there isn't a help file, it will be added sometime in the future.
