Wingie 2 resonant filter kind of thing

#1

Hello all,

I was wondering how to try to do something similar to the Wingie 2 by Meng Qi, has anyone here tried resonator banks??

From previous posts I learnt about the "jt/filter/vcf4pole2x" object which can be pinged, but it's far from the long resonating tones and textures obtained with the Wingie, any ideas on how to start experimenting in this topic?

great you ask this because i was looking into something like this too in the forum!

i did a first very basic try with the lmnts object but when i feed audio into it it doesn't trigger the resonator and when you use the gate inlet to trigger it, you can still hear the incoming audio mixed with the resonating sound.

maybe a combination of lmnts + envelope follower?

They don't really specify what the "resonator" actually is. The code is on github though, but I can't help you with that. If you just want something similar you could experiment with tuned short delay lines (search for "karplus strong" on the forum) or maybe allpass filters with feedback.

I made this a little while back based on a glance at the description of Mutable Elements.

It's 64 bandpass filters with resonances all slightly tuned. Each row of filters makes up a 'band', starting from a low frequency band at the top to a higher one at the bottom.

Each band has a simple AD envelope found at the top. You could swap them out for an LFO or an envelope with modulation inputs. You can also manually control the volume of each band with the final mixer at the bottom.

It sounds... intense. I put a simple saw wave through it and it sounded like a haunted cathedral. A loud one.

This is in no way accurate to how the Elements or the Wingie resonator work, but it was an attempt to make something in that domain.
