We're all hoping and waiting, they should be back in stock soon. Usually it doesn't take that long.
Where to buy a Axoloti Core / Out of stock
Who is the person responsible for ordering these? Canβt we just get an ETA from them? Seems simple?
I am concerned as a new user that this is deterring growth of the platform. I was able to obtain my unit second hand (with difficulty) - but was on the verge of giving up. But how many others will give up and use Organelle or some other alternative instead?
Axoloti is a great platform but (a) no hardware availability, and (b) apparently stalled firmware development, surely risks stopping this promising thing in its tracks?
A post would literally take two minutes. Sorry to complain/if I am out of line, but this just doesn't make sense to me (as someone who in my professional life/day job manages big projects). If the person responsible doesn't have time is someone else able to place the orders/at least post an ETA?
Responsible developer is @johannes
But it seems like he is more and more MIA. Very rarely post or does anything in the forum anymore.
And the other guy who helped develop it a bit, Technobear is also rarely active in here anymore, he has been focusing on the Organelle.
So yeah, Axo seems more and more like an abandoned project, but no one is really giving any info on what is going on.
Thanks. This seems unnecessary / a shame - it's a great piece of kit. Are there other interested Devs to take up the project? Or have all of the realistic candidates lost interest?
Surely even if firmware is frozen, the hardware unit is worth distributing? It's open source right (excuse my ignorance)
Even if I agree with the moto "you can't rush art" I hope the silence is temporary..
Yes, there is a lot of other nice hardware options around there (Raspberry pi 4 + I2S boards).
At the moment I personally have to focus on other stuff than synthesis and Axoloti.
I hope the Axoloti situation will be clearer in 3 months when i will come back to my audio projects.
the boards are produced in runs, and @johannes has to order components etc for each run, sometimes he can end up waiting for components β¦ so there is a delay.
honestly, if you review even this single thread (and there are others), each time you will see some questioning 'is this the end' β¦ each time its not, its just the vagaries associated with small production runs.
as for me losing interest, not at all...
I still love axoloti, its a dedicated microcontroller/dsp platform - which means zero boot time, and a whole load of other benefits.
but i have other projects I work on, in particular orac, which started on the organelle (but ive taken to other platforms) became quite popular, and so has been pretty time consuming recently - so ive not much time left for other many other projects, unfortunately including axoloti.
but i still do want to get back to axoloti when my time allows, and actually, like anything, I think experience gain elsewhere, id hope to bring back here....i see it all as a pretty natural thing, we go back n' forth between projects - as our time and interests drift
Hi everyone. Not really anything new, but I wanted to state that I would definitely buy 3 more for a project. And really love the stuff. So thank you for making them and I hope they will become available soon. Cheerio!
Would you guys be interested if I did a run of a micro version of the board? I did a layout of a simplified version about a year ago or so as an experiment but never actually manufactured it; I could dig it up. I'm thinking cut the DIN jacks and possibly simplify IO and power and get the price down, probably 3.5mm IO. Sort of like how Pi has Pi Zero, we could have Axoloti Zero.
i would be interested. if you could leave the 5 point connection (the point where axoloti can be broken apart) in, that would be great. one could simply add a din midi if necessary. also usb host should be there.
i always thought about this as a last resort but since there are potential new users almost daily asking when they will be back in stock and we don't hear a single word from @johannes i think it might be about time. if you are open to it, i am sure a lot of people would be very happy to voice ideas for modifications...
I have nothing but respect and admiration for Johannes, and I think we should respect his privacy. He may simply just be burnt out or have other stuff going on. He certainly knows where we are if and when he's ready to come back.
On the alt board idea I can think of a few approaches: 1. Quick and dirty, direct compatibility with the existing ecosystem, no enhancements, probably only simplifications, smaller, cheaper, a "micro/zero" version. 2. Trying to replicate Core exactly. 3. Opening it up to modifications, enhancements, changes, breaking compatibility, etc.
I kind of like 1 now and then 3 a bit later possibly with some alternative firmware/patcher strategy that may not be directly compatible probably built on STM32H7x for performance.
probably #1 the best idea, since it doesn't involve additional work and will quickly make the axoloti available for the time being.
and of course i agree with everything you said about johannes. nobody has any rights or claims or anything towards him, i think it's just great you are trying to step in and help keep the project available. no harm can be done here, it's all open source, non-profit anyways.
