Using LED as audio output feedback

Hi,

I would like to use a LED to have visual feedback of audio output amplitude. My approach is using an envelope follower conected to an analogue GPIO output in order to change LED intensity.

But I have some doubts that I hope you can solve:

Is this a right approach?
Is there other object to convert s-rate to k-rate values to control LED?
Could it damage my analogue PIN?
