Usb hub support in new firmware (not released)

#1

hi there,

a question popped up regarding usb-hub support. will it be possible to interconnect two usb-midi devices? so for example plug in an usb-midi keyboard and a synth with usb-midi and send data from the keyboard to the synth. what would the latency be like?

thanks

The USB Host port doesn't support USB hubs, I don't think.

not jet, i know. but the new (unreleased) firmware should, no?

#4

new firmware will have hub support, code is already in dev version.
yes you can send data between devices , there is also a new way of identifying devices in patches.
Latency is fine as far as I can tell, I don’t think any more than if you plugged in directly really.

ok, thanks @thetechnobear! my question regarding latency was geared towards interconnecting devices. will there be additional processing latency from usb to usb? (something like 1.3ms as for audio) or is this handled on a lower level? anyways, exciting stuff!!

wow big ups for implementing this guys! This will make bigger setups with multiple axolotis and controllers a lot easier

It want it I want it I want it I want it :star_struck:

Hi! Can't seem to find updated information on this: Are USB hubs supported by now?

#9

No they are not supported. There have not been any updated in a very, very long time.

There are experimental versions on github, but you have to build them yourself. And from what I understand they are buggy.

If you want to use more midi devices, you can just connect them to a computer and then use this program to route the midi to axoloti:

Thanks for the reply! So it’s a matter of the Axoloti not knowing what MIDI messages are meant for it? Hence the need for some routing?

What about using a RaspPi to provide that routing? Would that work or has someone tried that?

#11

Sorry, that I have no idea about.
