Stereo Morphing LP/HP filter with MIDI Control

#1

Hello Axoloti community!

I am very new to the Axoloti, having just received mine two days ago. This forum has been indispensable in understanding this device. 99% of the depth of this unit flies a hundred miles over my head, but the modular environment has allowed this noob to create some rudimentary patches that sonically add a lot to my current setup.

Onto my first project, a MIDI controlled stereo morphing LP/HP filter with some simple FX processing as well (flanger and reverb). I have dubbed it the "Heatseekerrrizer." Many of the choices in creating this patch were forced - I know zilch about creating new objects or programming - I could only use modules that already contained control ports (for MIDI cc control). I am happy with the results though!

As a person who understands only the basics of modular synthesis, I thought I'd share what a total noob can accomplish with the Axoloti.

Here is a video I created using the "Heatseekerrrizer." (Though this was recorded before I added the flanger and reverb)

Here's a screencap of my patch.

And if you'd like to try it out yourself:

Nice! lots of fun to have with two handfull of CCs

I have revised my patch quite a bit. Here's a list of changes I made:

  • The Bitcrusher has been completely redone and now has tweakable paramenters - choose what bits to reverse and MIDI CC controlled noisegate

  • The Flanger was too simple and produced lackluster results so I scrapped it and added the "Warbler," a Leslie effect with several MIDI CC controlled parameters - rate, depth, and wobble

  • Rather than a sole wet/dry knob for controlling Reverb, the effect now behaves as a send, preserving reverb tails. Also added MIDI CC control of reverb feedback.

  • Organized the appearance of the patch and labeled everything.

All of these changes increase usability and greatly enrich the sonic palette the Heatseekerrrizer can provide.

Here's a screencap of the patch.

And here's the updated file.

very nice, I like it alot

Oh, yes that's nice, i did mention two hands, now we DO need more then 20 CC's
Keep up @heatseekerrr !!

Thanks for checking out my patch and the kind words!

I've made one minuscule adjustment to the patch - added an attenuator after the Bitcrusher signal.

I've also made a new video that demonstrates all the functionality of the patch (except the reverb resonance, damn it).

Also, let me give a big overdue thank you to the dev and community that did all the ACTUAL work in this patch.

A few very small changes.

  • Added CCs for Bitcrush level and Master Volume - all knobs and faders used now
  • Added a gain stage before final output because the level was quite low

Hey guys,

I decided my patch could use a little work, so I have redesigned it. I also learned that I wasn't syncing libraries properly, and got a whole bunch of really inspiring tools all at once! Much appreciation to the talented people that created the modules within this patch.

Here is how I have it set up now.

  • Optimized the crossfading LP/HP filter with better tuned resonance limits (usable at pretty much every position)
  • SirSickSik's grainer effect - control the grain size, grain rate, level, wet/dry mix, and freeze/reverse
  • JT's bode pitch shifter - control the level and pitch for a pretty strange effect
  • SirSickSik's distortion shaper - control the level, wet/dry mix, and input level
  • Tweaked the way the reverb was processed - control the level, wet/dry mix, and BP filter
  • Hits a compressor at the end of the chain - control the master level

Here's a screencap of the patch.

And here's a video of me having some fun with it.

Edit: Having some issues uploading the patch at this time, will share as soon as I figure it out.

Edit: Here's the patch!

More tweaks.

  • The distortion now uses SirSickSik's Octavius module.
  • Bode pitch shifter is gone to make room for Octavius parameters
  • In an attempt to make a "glue" compressor like in the OP-1 the compressor is set to extreme settings
  • Small tweaks to get things perfect, fixed some out of sync L-R channel stuff, improved the fader/knob sweeps

I think this patch colors the sound in a really nice way. I like to dial in a little distortion mixed with dry signal and bump the compressor. The Octavius module can get super nasty but I think it sounds super dope dialed in like a light overdrive.

Here's a screenshot of the patch and a video of me playing with it.

I feel like a total schmuck - without even realizing it I duplicated and have been distributing what is more or less a very similar project since last fall as an Axoloti show-off, to see if I can get some more folk I run into using the Axoloti. Mine was built for club DJ use, so it's mono. I'm excited to try your patch out - I found this thread searching Google for "axoloti stereo fx,"

Here's a post about my patch - i ask folk to email me for it. http://www.savag.es/media-streaming-1/2016/10/15/axoloti-dj-multifx-and-lemur-controller

Haha, no need to feel like a schmuck! I imagine tons of people are using the Axoloti in this way as an effects processor.

I am absolutely thrilled that some of the Mutable Instruments modules have been ported over. So far I've incorporated the Elements reverb into my patch. The previous reverb I was using had a lot of "character" and the Elements has a much more natural sound - as well as more parameters to tweak. Since the first page of knobs and faders are already in use, the knobs for additional reverb parameters are on Scene B of the Nanokontrol.

this is great, thanks for sharing. Loving your music too. Keep it up!
