I expect this is not likely a major issue, but just to be safe for the sake of the board, As I mostly use mono for guitar, I input output on the stereo left, hardware wise, it should be safe to use the stereo right as a send and return ?
If so I will remove the 2 stereo in/outs and solder in 4 mono's, with 2 for send return.
Thanks....
Send return for mono requirements, is it safe?
I would just make a little box with two stereo input jacks connected to a pair of mono jacks each. That way you don't damage your board...
I suggest to leave the on-board stereo input and output jacks populated, but modify them into mono operation, and add panel-mount jacks for the right channel input and right channel output.
You'll need to cut two tracks on the bottom side of the Axoloti Core circuit board to disconnect the right channel from the in- and output jacks - as indicated with a thick yellow line.
(blue are tracks on the bottom side, red are tracks on the top side of the Axoloti Core board)
You could also modify the axoloti core board to connect the two jacks as L&R mono output (or input), and supplement L&R mono input (or output).
Thanks Johannes, could I please just one more question about why you would recommend leaving the stereo jacks on especially if I am to disconnect them by cutting the tracks ?
De-soldering the jacks I would expect is easier and will cause less damage to the circuit board. Or is there something else in the circuit board setup that I need to be mindful of ?
I have some good quality mono jacks I would love to substitute.
My original concern and why I raised the topic was out of concern with a send and return, I don't want to cause any issues send out a signal from the axo and then back in. I would expect it isn't any issue but was hopping someone could confirm this before I proceed, just to be safe.
Thanks.
I don't think it's really easy to de-solder this connector.
But certainly not impossible...
Do you imply that there is something wrong with the quality of the on-board stereo jacks?
They're not gold plated, but still genuine Neutrik parts.
Another approach could be leaving the stereo connectors on the board, but cutting the contact leaf to the ring, effectively reducing them to mono, without cutting tracks on the circuit board:
Back to your original question: I don't see any issue with using right in/out as FX send/return.
Thanks Johannes,
There is nothing wrong with the stereo jacks, this is not what I meant, however I have a lot of bad experiences with devices secured with plastic threads, highly susceptible to stripping or breaking when I use them (anything with plastic threads I mean), and I have some nice jacks with metal threads that I want to use. I have already thought about cutting the contact leaf, this maybe an option depending on the final setup I come up with. Very much appreciate your guidance here.
