PS3-Controller USB

#1

So is it possible (or planned) to use a PS3 gamepad (over USB for sure) as input to generate Midi CCs or Notes?

Don't think it will be possible, as gamepads usually need drivers. It is possible though to connect thumb joysticks/buttons directly to the Axoloti Core if you solder them to the GPIO pads.

Another option is to connect the gamepad to your computer, and use software to generate MIDI CC and send these to the Axoloti.

A quick bit of research shows it should be possible, been done on Linux , and it doesn't look that complicated.
Perhaps when I dig out my PS3 from a box in the loft, I'll take a look - though not a prio for me as it won't give much more than the axocontrol I have. So would be for giggles. But perhaps someone else will be more motivated and get there first :grinning:

I think those are generic USB HID game controller devices, no need for a special driver. But HID game controllers are currently not supported in Axoloti, since those are not well supported by the STMicro USB host stack last time I looked, but perhaps someone made an open source implementation already that could be integrated? Should support joysticks, gamepads, as well as slightly more uncommon controllers like the 3dconnexion spacenavigator etc...

Bitbox would appear to be possibility.
https://github.com/makapuf/bitbox
Lib directory has hid parser with gamepad support etc

( actually has a few things that might be interesting to axoloti.)

any news on this one? it would be so cool to map a gamepad and learning to play it like an instrument + axo with battery can hang over the shoulder > real audio instrument vibes.
