Power supply - what is too strong and what is just right? mA / V / W

Hey community,

I am going to build my first synth and since I don't want to fry my board, I need some help regarding the power supply.
My synth is going to be just the board with 10-12 potentiometers plus a contact microphone attached to the input.

My question now is:
Which one of these power adaptors is enough / which one is to strong and would fry the board / which mA amount is perfect?

Nr. 1:

Output voltage: 3.0/4.5/5.0/6.0/7.5/9.0/12 V DC /// Output: 3.6 W /// Current300

Nr. 2:

output voltage: 9 V DC /// output current: max. 0.66 A /// power: 6 W

Thx for mentioning, but I already saw this thread and since I am absolutely inexperienced in this electricity topic, I was hoping to get an answer for this specific power adapter :slight_smile:

Voltage-wise you can use anything from 7-15V.

For full USB power, you need about 3.75W, more doesn't hurt.

No 1 will power your axo board, but you might not get the maximum amperage on the USB port, meaning there may be some USB controllers you might not be able to power through the axo. For most, though, it should be fine, as it's just slightly below the recommended 3.75W.

No 2 is more powerful, but i didn't see whether the plug is center positive. This is the one thing to look out for as it could damage your board.

In the data sheet I read, that No.2 is centre positiv. Is that the way it should be? Or is centre positive bad?
