Pins/holes next to dc part

There are a bunch of unlabeled pins/holes on the dc / midi part. What is theiry purpose?
Can I use them freely like a protoboard?

Any Ideas here? @Johannes? Would be really practical to use pins for small extra circuitry like resistors and stuff.

They're for free use as a micro-protoboard. The pads next to the +5V and GND labels are what the label says they are.
