'Open Recent' Menu

#1

I've been using Axoloti on a Mac for a bit more than a year, and I've always been puzzled by the 'Open Recent' files menu.

Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Does anybody else notice the same thing?

It might seem silly, especially in the current situation, but I was wondering.

Works fine here, as far as I remember, at least..

If you move the patch/file or rename the folder the patch/file is located in, the link from the recent menu will be broken and won't work. Besides those cases I don't remember having any issues.

I am also on Mac.

I haven’t moved or renamed anything... this is puzzling.

‘Open recent’ menu has a list of patches, but when I open a patch that isn’t in the list, it doesn’t get added to the list.
But it must have, at some point, because the list definitely has files that I’ve created or opened.

Time to do some investigation.

#4

I just tried opening a patch and closing it again. It did not show up in the recent folder.

Then I opened the same patch again and did a "save as", and then it showed up

So try "save as" and see if it shows up

Yes, after a save, it appears in the menu. BUT, after restarting Axoloti, it's not in the menu.
Recent files aren't being saved in the recentFiles section of axoloti.prefs (the preferences file.)

#6

I have the same issue, but I haven't investigated that much, I simply locate the file manually

#7

Ok, it’s not only me.

Obviously, we work around it. But it would be so convenient if it worked.

#8

It's a bit buggy I agree

I had a file named Patch 3.0. I then saved it as Patch 3.1 and Patch 3.2. I closed opened Axoloti and both were there in the recent menu. So maybe it only saves the recent menu if more than one entry have been done to it?

I agree there is an issue there, but I never noticed it before, to be honest. When I work on a patch i often save many versions, so didn't really notice it. But it is a bit inconsistent.

I don't have a lot of hope that this is something that will be fixed for this version. Maybe version 2.0 will include it if you file it as a bug on Github. But yeah, that version 2, needs A LOT of work before it is usable. I tried it but basically no patch I opened worked. Only patches created in V2.0 worked. So I won't put any hopes up for V2 working anytime soon.

I noticed this, too and pretty much gave up on that menu. Which would be less annoying if i could load a patch by just double clicking on it in the finder...

#10

If I remember correctly that is implemented in Axoloti v2 software.

#11

From my experience the recent menu is completely unreliable. It happened so often that i was working on the wrong versions of patches that I stopped using it completely.

in mac you can drag and drop a patch to an empty patch in axoloti and then open like you would open a subpatch. hacky workaround but better than nothing

another hack is to drag and drop from finder to axoloti menu.

#12

perhaps do a re-installation? might be that the preferences file is corrupted.

#13

It isn’t a corrupted file, and reinstall isn’t needed. If you delete the preferences file, a new one is created.
It’s a bug.
