No program files (x86) where to place runtime

windows

#1

I'm attempting to install the Axoloti software on a PC tablet running Windows 10 and don't seem to be able to access the directory c:\program files(x86) needed to copy the runtime folder into.

I seem to be named as an administrator on the tablet but can only see the windows(c:) partition.

Is this a quirk of Windows 10 running on tablets or am I doing something wrong?

Help appreciated please.

hmm, it should be there.... is on mine... perhaps hidden files?
is it a 32bit or 64bit installation? (mine is 64bit)

I cant think what to suggest, perhaps post a screenshot of the C: drive from file explorer?
( is there a C:\program files ?)

sorry, not really much to go on... I've got 3 windows 10 installations, including a tablet (that had win10 preinstalled), and all have the folder, and i don't remember doing anything to make it visible on any of them.

have a quick search on google... there are a few saying its 'disappeared', perhaps their solutions might help you.

I've tried all the suggestions I can find in the various forums ranging from unhiding files to searching as an administrator but with no luck!

It's a refurbished tablet I've bought (Linux 7) and I've installed Windows 10 as I couldn't find the directory in Windows 8 either!

Here's a screenshot for your delectation:

Now go into the c drive. , and give us a screenshot.

I'm wondering if you've installed the 32bit windows 10... in which case, I guess there is no need to have both, since you cant run 64 bit applications.

try installing Axoloti before you install the runtime, and see where the Axoloti folder appears, if its in the program files, then just put the runtime there.
(I'll have to check the code to see if it looks in both places or not, but we can cross that bridge when we get to it )

btw... make sure you have java (runtime) installed as well... this is done on a default install, afaik, but not sure about the install you have done.

EDIT: ok, ive checked the code, so do as i suggested, install Axoloti first... I suspect this will put it in C:\Program Files, and then you can put the runtime there. The code checks where Windows says its puts applications, and then searches for the runtime there, so you should be fine.
let me know what happens, and then I will update the windows install guide appropriately - thank you

EDIT2: Ive renamed the topic to be more specific.

That's logical, I'll give it a whirl and report back later.

Thanks

Yes!!!!!!::grinning:

Works just fine - you were right about the keyboard though - have bought a mini USB type which works fine.

Many thanks - much appreciated

cool, did it install to C:\Program Files? (i.e. c;\Program Files (x86) Is not required)
just want to be clear, so I can update the installation instructions accurately.

Yes and that's where I copied the runtime too. I've compiled and uploaded patches from the demo lists and ones that I have created too and all seems well.

The Axoloti runs fine off the USB to the tablet (a Linx 7 £37 reconditioned!) thus giving me a compact portable developmental environment that I can also use for Arduino programming.

The Bluetooth keyboard is a Jelly Comb mini with a touchpad.

Thanks again for all your help.
