March 2016 - Effects Patches (challenge/discussion)

#10

missing ;-(

#11

thx will investigate....updated

#12

here's a last-minute contribution,based on this looper-object I did recently
you need axoloti patcher v 1.08 for it to work

LOOPER-STOMPER

it does what it does with 4 push-buttons and 1 dial,
RECORD -records a new loop
PLAY/OVERDUB -toggles playback and overdub
SAVE -writes th loop to sd-card
LOAD -loads the loop from sd-card
when you load a loop you've saved,LOOPER-STOMPER does remember the loop's length!
FEEDBACK -when set to anything than 64,the loop will decay gradually

#13

@mytas @sputniki i was hoping 4 ur patches...:cry:

#14

Yes, I was hoping too...
Just a little update for my patch : BitCrusher.axp (8.2 KB)

Work with community library !

#15

Sorry about that, I got the dates mixed up in my head, and thought I still had a few days to do something, so instead I'll post a messy, not very interesting (sorry it's becoming a habit) sequenced multi-effect. It needs midi clock for timing.
So sorry I couldn't come up with something more exciting, but outside jobs are taking more and more time with the spring season.

I'm sorry phil.. I had totally zero inspiration this month. I wanted to do some kind of distortion effect (hence the function tables that are still there to be used :stuck_out_tongue: ), however i did not get any satisfactory results (even with crossover + saturation + hardclipping). The bitcrusher effect was already taken. I tried to do some glitch/stutter effect but it was nothing glorious at all, soo i hope into next competition

#17

heij sputniki...maybe you should lower ur expetations for glorious and extravagant... and just post one of your in progess patches...

@all how do we go on ? i think we have to lower the contrains to minus 2....personally i hate constrains....and competition is a word that sounds soo disharmonic to my ears.....

my suggestions for the next"competition" would be make a remix of the techniques used in the previous "competitions".....

anyhow thanx everybody for posting their mess...
@mytas ur my messias

#18

@philoop I don't mind abandoning all constraints excepte general theme (but can be "effects", "polysynth", "noodeling" ,"Bowie". Maybe just keep the "use patch/patcher rather than axs (due to single file constraint)" rule.

I'm so sorry I didn't even get to test this months patches yet, too many other things to do when in front of a computer, I'll get into it in the next few days. Bravo @JeromeB @rbrt and @philoop for participating. Do we really need to do a voting process ?

Otherwise any open ideas for the next competition(s), maybe make it last 2 months, I don't know, just an idea

#19

Bravo guys... sorry not had a chance to participate, jealous of those that did!

Im with @philoop and @mtyas, Im not so much into the 'competition' element, hence why I named this section challenges, as I quite liked the idea for challenges as 'focused inspiration'. similarly I don't think constraints matter so much, that focus can come from anywhere

if there is a move to using the community library, then AXS files are not such an issue, similarly custom objects can be used

voting, I don't see if as vital either... and perhaps not really valid unless there are more entries.
I guess you'll have to work out a way to decide on the next challenge, but that can be done by consensus.

btw: the post regarding 'rules' is a wiki post, so anyone can edit it, to reflect the consensus of how its to be run

anyway well done to those competing, I hope I can get some time to come back to it this soon.

#20

I personally prefer challenges without competitions. Challenge just for fun and share

#21

i must admit, it felt good to be the winner........
to draw more participants it might be good @johannes or @thetechnobear would challenge??

#22

very nice reverb from kausto...

Continuing the discussion from Reverbs creation:

#23

Why don't we use a few weeks this month to ask for different theme "subjects" and then run a poll, we can then run down the proposition list for the next few months. If most of you are ok, I'll create a special discussion thread for it.

#24

Thanks. I'd recommend to use latest one, called LushFDN. Regarding FX-Challenge i wanted to contribute something but could not find time to prepare this.

#25

Maybe i'm a bit late, but i tried the patches, and i'd like to give some feedback (also, i'm so terribly sorry i did not partecipate this month, but as i said earlier zero inspiration, and i put all of my efforts in programming those tables).

To all of you: i'm quite disappointed, because nobody has put a master volume knob before the output.
You should be ashamed.

@JeromeB : awesome. You did a great job with your patch. I wished i could record some of the produced sounds, i got glitches and bleeps and all of the amazing stuff you could want from a bitcrusher.
However, i noticed a very slight stereo imaging, even with the stereo knob set to zero. I think is a problem of (sigh) order of execution. You should move the two mixer objects below everything they have on the left, and the audio output object even lower than that. This way you let the two signals be processed the same way before feeding them out.
I don't like how the stereo expander is implemented, it muddens the sound when the dial is halfway, and basically it's usable only at the extreme settings.
Good choice to put that highpass filter before the effect, sounds very nice.
Also great resource management: 7% for such an effect is pretty decent to me.

I'd say: make a stomp version of the effect, maybe mono: everyone will love it!

@mtyas amazing patchwork, as always, were you inspired by the aira mx1  ?
It's nice to have a performance dedicated effect, especially because you can use it to make rythmic stuff. I made an hip hop beat out of " Rain Sleep Sounds White Noise | Fall Asleep, Fight Insomnia, Stay Sleeping All Night Long | 10 Hours ", which is pretty sweet if you think about it.
However some effects are just not usable enough (like the flanger, it's annoying to have it on all the time). The sequencer does not allow 16th triggers (which could be easily implemented with some logic patchwork, using the clock as a "reset" source for bool triggers).
I can't see this patch as an actual stompbox, either because of the huge resource consumption or because of how "general" it is.
Great work, overall!

@rbrt Your patch is my favourite. It's simple as hell, but it does it's work almost perfectly.
Only flaw i found is: once the loop is recorded, there's no way to manipulate it (at least slowing it down or pitching it up, please!)
You already made the standalone object, but the save feature with the index is just toooo juicy to have. Please :baby_chick:
I'm happy i have sold my kaossilator pro. Who needs it now?

@philoop i'm sorry, but i could not test your patch, it gave me red errors and could not even load the patch.

Good competition, ultimately. A few entries but really interesting ones. You have my blessing.
However, if it was for me, nobody would have won this challenge, you would all have been disqualified for not putting the damn master volume knob.

I'd propose, for the next challenge, to rethink some aspects of sound synthesis.
For example: why only audio effects? Why don't we have effects for control rate signals?
What would a tap delay sound like, if applied after an envelope? And a chorus?
Also, why don't we use filters as shaping tools for lfos? What privilege do s-rate signals have that k-rate don't?

#26

@Sputnki
btw I updated the standalone object to 'save with index'
(looper_FB_mono,it's in the community library)
...pitch/direction is definitely something I will try to implement,
just need to learn some more coding...:lemon:
@JeromeB
I love the crusher!!

#27

Have a nice day on the beach.........

#28

Seashore FX5 this version will work only if you sync libraries, due to some axos from me and @jaffasplaffa.
SeashoreFX5.axp (57.5 KB)
Embeding the Delays also caused the problems in the last competition for me,so i contributed the ECHO1Y.axs,
and hopefully next challenge no one sees red...:smirk:

#29

Thanks for your feedback @Sputnki ! I must rework the stereo expander. I don't like noise on the right ear when play with delay knob and stereo expander frequency knob. I'm agree with that. I moved the 2 mixers below everything they have on the left, but this take no effects. I look for a better solution to increase stereo depth. The @kausto reverb is a very good solution.

Thank @rbrt, I'm playing with your looper !
