I want to build a playback controller - sort of.
I want to be able to use a MIDI input to trigger the start of playback of wave files from sdcard.
I don't need to be able retrigger, but I want to be able to 88 sounds (a piano).
I don't need any bending, filtering, envelope or volume control - but it would be nice later.

The closest thing I have found so far is a PC running games software with a games sound effects library to control the sound playback/mixing. I would like a better option if I can find one.

Can the axoloti do this?

My main concern is the simultaneous playback/mix.
I have built a couple of interactive instrument/installations and that is the weakness in all the hardware I have used so far.
The first one will be another keyboard staircase that plays tones with each step.
The steps are coded into MIDI and then played.
Then it will get more and more steps.
Some people can actually play tunes by dancing on the steps!
