Is it possible to make an old school multitrack midi recorder like MC500 or MMT8?

My plan is to make one device which is both an audio multitrack looper and a midi multitrack looper in perfect sync with each other. But I want a decent resolution and long loop lengths, so I can record unquantized midi over long sections, like up to 32 bars or more. I've searched and found the looper objects, but only step sequencers. How would I go about designing an actual event sequencer/ midi multitrack recorder/looper? Oh, I want to record midi by playing in real time with a midi keyboard. A metronome would be cool too. Thanks

thats really smart i also like features like on the looper if you hold a note down it will erase all the notes , check midibox seq v3 for that...

#3

Yeah thats a nice project. A bit like the MidiREX but with audio would be great.

I did some audio-loopers (they're in the community library)
but I want to create event-loopers as well...
what do you consider a 'decent resolution' ?

#5

I saw that @rbrt ! Totally awesome and half way to my goal, thanks! For midi, 96ppq (like the mmt8) would be enough I suppose, though double that would be even better.

It would also be cool if it could work with external midi clock as well as send out the internal midi clock reliably. A delete button to erase all events while it's playing back, a midi merge overdub mode, switchable soft thru...

Id suggest resolution and syncing via clocks is done via trigger inputs...
then the clocks can be done separately, as they are need for other things too.

That's a good idea @thetechnobear.

Here's info on the MMT8. I have one too if anyone needs me to test anything. http://www.mmt8.com/manual/intro.php

Hello! Any advances on this? Would be really interested on a realtime MIDI looper such as described here. Thanks and Happy New Year!
