Improvements/Wishes for the patcher

#41

On Nord g2 "Z" is assigned as a note trigger. Only "z" is assigned to trigger notes, the rest of the keyboard is working normally.

i.e. you can only trigger one note? (e.g. C3) , yeah this covers the sound design use case, except many patches respond differently depending upon key tracking, and not good for say drum rack testing.
so perhaps need something a little more.
I guess it could do a retrigger of last note played on virtual keyboard... but if the need moved to more 'creative' uses, probably not going to fulfil needs.

I admit Im not really best person to figure use-case, as I never use a computer as a piano,
for a portable solution I would either:

  • use a daw, and record sequence, and keep it looping (useful for sound design)
  • use an ipad/iphone to output midi, tons of apps with keyboards
  • take a portable keyboard, x-keys springs to mind.

the last option I don't do as I don't have the need (hence use iPad), but if i did this often, this is the way id go... its portable, and has the advantage could be used without computer.

Yes you only trigger one note. But if I remember correct you can set which note to trigger. There is a small keyboard, similar to the one in Axooti. You set which key to trigger by marking the key you want to play.

Yes sure it is no so good for drumpatches, cause you use more keys for drums. But then again, for drum patches I dont really need to trigger single sounds, cause most of the time the drums are triggered from a sequencer.

For those interested you can download a demo version of Nord G2 that doesnt need the DSP engine. It runs of your computers CPU. The original demo is limited(not all modules are there and no midi in sync etc), but I know that there is a hacked version of the G2 demo that unlocks most of these features. Hacked version is PC only and I havent tried it personally but I have friends who actually sold there G2 and only use hacked version. I am not going to do that, though smile

Anyway here is link for Nord G2 demo. It only works on Osx 10.6. and down., because of no Rosetta support in newer OSX. Dunno about Pc version compatibility:

Anyway. G2 has got some killer features and is worth to look into. You can even download full version and look around in patches/modules, etc. But with no sound. I get a lot of inspiration from G2 modules when patching in Axoloti smile

Johannes has a G2, so confident he will bring the best bits over smile

#45

yes I can see there is some inspiration from there smile And it is really an awesome machine, but these days you wont get a G2 engine for less than 1000 euro... Keyboard version goes for around 1500-2500 euros, depending on how man keys..... A bit expensive. I was lucky to get an engine with a broken USB port from a guy who didnt know what to do with it. Payed 400 Euro.. And 100 euro to fix it smile Good investment, though I never plan to sell it smile

I find myself always doing this:

-cmd+N (for new window patcher)
-double-click on that window (for objects)
-type say; math and going for the up/down keyboard arrows to scroll the given options…. (NOT possible)

Does this make sense, any good?
patching….

Press tab to change focus to the object list, then you can use up/down arrows. Press tab once more to change focus to the object tree. There you can use up,down,left,right...

I agree, up/down without moving focus to the object list would be nice.

A resizable multi-line comment box would be nice for documenting patches.

Thanks,

id rather have 40 axoloti boards over g2 anyday. actually ill probably never buy a piece of commercial gear again stuck_out_tongue

I got a few synths, Nord Micro Modular 1, Nord G2, Waldorf Micro Q, Waldorf Blofeld, Kaos Pad 3 and a few rack effect, like TC Electronics and Samson stuff..... Nord G2 is the most powerful, when it comes to sound quality... Uber awesome smile Axoloti reminds me a bit of newer Waldorf synths. Also good, but not same league as G2.... Anyway, that is my opinion.... smile But I am really happy I have both... And I think like you, I am not getting anymore conventional synth... Only going to get more modular stuff from now on.. More Axoloties or some Eurorack stuff.... But I really try not to start with eurorack.... There is a saying; if you dont want your kids to do drugs, let them start collecting eurorack modular, cause then they will never have money for drugs smile

#51

wow really..hard to believe but I don't have a g2

#52

filemanager file delete support would be nice smile

#53

vertically broader 'objects list'

#54

When editing - replace object - would be nice to show all in that category? say, replace osc/tri - could show list of all osc/

#55

Seems like 'const/i' - you can only set the value with click & drag. Very impractical if you want to enter a large number. Should be able to type in the text box.

#56

You can actually just type a value when the number box control is focused, just type the number and press enter to accept.
It does not have "native" look and feel, I don't want to use "native" controls in an object, because then the presentation would be platform dependent.

#57

oh - so it does. Yeah, it's confusing when the normal conventions of the UI aren't followed. I guess I'll get used to it.

#58

the uuid sha issue drives me crazy
i want to make my own objects...not patchers

#59

undo for editor please

#60

I'd like an undo very much too.
