How to Patch a Phaser

#1

how to patch a phaser ? anyone?

#2

Maybe this helps: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phaser_(effect)

Maybe it's also the answer to my earlier question about allpass filters and what they are good for. Have to try it out after work.

#3

unfortunately the Allpass does not have a modulation input, so not easy to use it to build a phaser.

#4

You could modulate the dial with a modsource. I don't have a clue however what that dial does

#5

yes a mod input would be good....but here it isPhaser.axp (9.3 KB)or as subpatchPhaser1.axs (9.3 KB)

i am not sure how to set the delay times!?

#6

Without listening, based on the Wikipedia article I would imagine they are best left at minimum.

#7

The delay is in samples, so I guess the values should be a few hundred.

I have not tested it, but doesn't this create a lot of 'clicks' / zipper noise?

#8

test it its fun :grinning:

setting delay to 1 creates the phasing sound.....

Sorry to bump a very old thread, but I just wanted to point out that the all pass filters being used in this thread are Schroeder allpasses, which are used as the building blocks for digital reverb.
The type of allpass involved in making phaser is the analogue kind (or an IIR implementation thereof).
They're both allpasses in the sense of passing all frequencies without altering their levels, but it comes out as diffusion in a Schroeder allpass whereas it's a smoothly transitioning phase delay in an "analogue" allpass.

#11

Your welcome! Would you please code a suitible allpass? Or create a nice Phaser Patch?

#12

I'd love to, but I'm not quite there in terms of skill levels yet! I know the difference between the two types, but I don't know enough about IIR filters to actually make one.

I made a phaser, but not 100% sure which type of all pass I used, it's been so long since I made it. But it's probably not correct....
