Gnd and 5v pads problems!

#1

Hello I was recently wiring up a simple input protection circuit with some pots. Things were not working right and I realized the problem was with the ground pad next to the 5v pad. Do these pads not work with usb power and only when using a wallwart? Any additional info would be great. I moved my ground over to a different pad and everything works fine. I was planning on using the 5v pad to power some op amps. My multi meter isn’t showing any voltage at the 5v pad either, but it could just be time for a new multi meter. If I don’t find more info I’ll bring my axoloti to work for further investigation. (Tons of multimeters and scopes where I work)

Do you have a photo of the connections you are referring too ?
Your description could refer to any number of scenario's, an image of the connections you are referring too will help be more specific. :grinning:

There are actually only two spots that math my description and if one was only viable with the wallwart as the power supply I assumed that it would be a known issues. But you know what they say about assumptions. The pads I was having trouble with are the ones located below the red wire. Also I have confirmed my multi meter is garbage now.

Actually, the perf section of the board where you are tapping into, is pretty much one area I have never sourced power from.
I know there is 5V and GND in the Midi section that will provide power weather you use USB power or wallwart.

I am currently at my place of employment, so I am unable to access my resources to advise you which one. I have powered a full external midi controller from this spot, still used the midi section.
Maybe this is a better alternative.

As far as I remember, the +5V and GND on this part of the board are not connected in columns as you would assume by the board layout. Try connecting your red wire to the pad with the +5V label next to it.
