Getting Started with Axoloti, the Book

#61

its great this is getting such good feedback :+1: given this, Ive added a link to this thread in the user guide, so that new users can find it a little easier.

Thanks. I'm planning an update to the book with extra content, and some improvements somewhere in 2017. But I've got to finish recording a new album first…

Just bought the book and I like it. However, I really just needed chapter 6. Maybe I am not the only one and it would make sense to have an option to purchase but this chapter (as otherwise it is a little pricey if one isn't interested in all of it).
Sth else, in ch. 6 it would make sense to add an overview of which solder pads one can use for what.
There is sth in the forum already, but it would be much handier in the book.

Don't think it's possible to sell separate chapters.

I'll include a table with GPIO pins in the next version of the book.

Hello All,

I just received my Axoloti board today and purchased The Book.

To echo the sentiments of all the well wishers above, it's an invaluable resource getting started.

I'm coming from a Nord Modular back-ground (more recently Wren) and the differences with Axoloti are just enough for me to need a little textual help.

Very much looking forward to working with the Axoloti and sharing with this great community.

All best,

David

I finished reading the book, my opinion is its:
pros:
- novelty
- example patches
- beginner's guide to axoloti, sound synthesis and midi
cons:
- overpriced
- lots of repetition: picture of empty patch, list of items, picture of connected patch
- misleading concepts in examples: double vca-s, vca before mixer, subpatch instead of embedded patch
- no (or just minimal) explanations

At the time Jan wrote the book, Axoloti was really just getting started. For example "embedded patch" as you call it(using patch/patcher object) was not implemented 100%, if I remember correctly. We used "subpatches" that was saved in the same folder as the main patch was.... "Subpatches" was the predecessor for "embedded patches. "I think that is why it refers to "subpatch" instead og "embedded patch".

thank you i didn't know that

#69

I just got the book and it has helped me immensely. I still have a question however.....How do I map gpio devices to knobs like midi cc? I see how to map a midi controller and how to assign gpio modules but nothing on how to send midi data from gpio.

Thanks for a great resource man.

#70

you need to use a "midi/intern/cc thin" object to transform a cv message (gpio or other) into a CC message

#71

Thank you mtyas! That was the key!!!! I'll be lost in AxoLand for the next day or two =]

Nice place here and hi all

#78

Nice, I think i an going to get it! Just wondering, how up to date it after all the updates of the axoloti

#79

Screenshots in the book are from a previous version of Axoloti. The content of the book is still up-to-date, as the objects used in the book haven't changed.
