Gave almost up an Axolotl!

#1

Hi !

I tried out things on axolotl the last month. I'm not a complete beginner in audio programming. I did some Max, Pd and quite a lot Supercollider, I did a lot of DIY and communicated with the others one groupdiy and supercollider's mailing list back than. I always had great experience with the community around those projects.

I asked a couple of stupid beginners questions on this forum but never got any answer, so tried to get around myself, but the documentation is not complete and especially the sound file handling buggy. But the most discouraging is that you are left alone as a beginner asking simple questions.

ciao Nicholas

Don't give up too easily, you can do a hell of a lot just with the patcher and no need to mess with the code.

I've found the people on here to be very helpful so far, I would agree with you about the documentation being a bit thin, but just giving up isn't going to fix that is it?

I'm still a beginner with Axoloti but I'll try and help you if I can.

can you post links to the posts you have made about issues you are having?

#3

well, that was not my experience. I never got an answer on the couple of patching questions I posted

Hi Strum

thank you for your nice words, I must say I was surprised that nobody ever answered
A recent question is: why does the wav file not load in stand alone mode. How should I format the path that the sound file is being read ?

0:/Usherm.wav

or: /Usherm.wav
or; Usherm.wav

nothing worked for me, maybe you know

thank you, Nicholas

#5

just read ur posts, hard to answer for me, but dont give up after just a month! maybe pm @johannes for the midi question if it is so urgent. And for the PIR question look how its done for the arduino, nobody did it for the Axo until now. I would love to see that too!

#6

PIR i have running already, thank you ! I might post a diagram, I guess it is just all at very early stage and a small community

#7

Haven't tried loading samples yet

do you have them on the sdcard and the sdcard mounted?

#8

when sample is in root directory:

dont forget to convert to raw first.

if you choose a sample it will be in the folder for the patch on th sd

#9

philoop !

thats the answer ! thank you, Nicholas

#10

right format would then be /amon is broke p/AMENBR.raw

#11

thanks, it's already running...

#12

sorry, its always possible we miss questions, usually things get answered pretty quickly here.

can you post which questions you still have unresolved.

#13

Hi technobear !

thank you for your help, yes of course I will post the results when working, I just posted 4 questioned the last month and never got an answer, so i started to get frustrated as you probably understand, and of course I understand too that people have other things on their minds than answering stupid questions. Anyway, I have to finish a project till tomorrow, so I might post another question tonight.

cheers, Nicholas

Hey!

Yes it can be a bit hard to start with.

Audiofiles for Axoloti is easily converted in Audacity, which is free. You should use 16 but 48kz format.(remember to not only set the sample rate on the file itself but also on the Audacity project, in the bottom of the screen.

When format is right, use export to export it as raw headerless file 16 bit file. Set those in options in export menu.

In many cases I think it is nice to stretch sample to fit perfectly in table. Tables use the power of 2 in sizes. SO 2, 4, 8, 16....... 262144 samples.... If you want to stretch the files to table sample size you should use Audacitys "change speed function".. You can set it with sample precision.

#15

that's very helpful too !

thank you, now pitch is again correct phuh !

I don't really see the problem, but I can completely relate to what you're going through.

My guess is that you have amateur interest in making your own synth, be you a tinkerer personality or a more "old school" musician who wants to dabble with creating your own artistic expression.

It reminds me of being a young kid trying to learn linux, and I'm still that young kid trying to learn more about open source software, programming, music theory and the likes..

It's Velleity

Wanting something, but maybe not wanting it enough to the point where you want to sacrifice/invest the time it takes to understand the software..or the theory..whatever it is.

It becomes more of a psychological..almost philosophical issue that has very little to do with well.. Making synthpatches in pure data and soldering some.

I recommend reading books like The Dip as well as watching documentaries and adapting a culture that surrounds whatever things in life you want to know more about, it's the best way to stay motivated.

YouTubevideos are also easily digested ways to learn more about what you want to delve into.
