Eventide pitch factor

hi there,

does anybody have some insights how the pitchfactor generates the pitched voices? it is very low latency and sounds pretty good. all the diy programmed examples i have seen use either fft or a "tape delay" approach. both seem to introduce quite some latency or artifacts
