Direct input from guitar is distorted

#1

Hi Guys,

I was wondering whether I could get a bit of advice over this: I've been using a stereo to 2x mono cable, direct from my guitar output to the axoloti in, then from the axoloti out to my guitar amp. With gain low or high going in and out of the Axo I still can't seem to get clean signal - there is always a decent amount of distortion. The axoloti synthesis on it's own doesn't distort, so I think the output stage is fine into the amp.

Anyone have any advice on this? I've seen videos on YT of other people whom seem to be able to get a clean guitar tone in and out.

Thanks!

You want to have a good look at the signal going into to Axo.
If you use a Bipolar Scope Display from the object list, connect the signal direct from input, you will see if your signal is clipping anywhere.
It doesn't take much to get a clipping signal from the guitar.
Also check your audio input, don't use the "audio/config" object. Can always add gain down the line.
Also check anything that might be boosting the signal before it gets to the Axo.

Why are you using a stereo to 2 x mono cables ? all you need is a mono from the guitar to the input.

Thanks I'll check it out.

I thought it had to be a stereo input, but I see that this might have been resolved.

No, you only need mono.
If you are going to use a stereo splitter, make sure it splits to 2 mono's then 2 guitars can plug straight in, you just separate the signals left and right audio input objects.

To verify normal operation, could you connect the Axoloti Core line output (not headphone out) to the line input with a stereo 1/4" jack cable, and try this patch:

This patch works fine. Maybe I was getting distortion from too hot an output into my amp. I'll fiddle around. Thanks for the help!
