Anyone fancy giving this a go? Here's a demo: I can't really figure out what's going on here - FFT maybe?

Sounds like you could achieve something very close by using a guitar synth patch with an envelope with long attack (check this topic). That would of course not be actual feedback, but I think the pedal doesn't sound very 'real' as well. Maybe a karplus strong-like delay line instead of oscillators sounds cool as well.

Thanks for that. I've been out of the loop for a while and didn't realise that we had a reliable pitch detector..
