integer inlet for the value, and bolean input for reset sounds reasonable I guess

that works like a charm thx! I had it in mind for patching up midi rotary encoders as discussed here. I've come up with a different aproach now but I still think that counter might be helpful in the future

There more objects you have the more ram you use potentially but there is lots of tricks to improve ram usage: I've found a slightly more elegant solution with my tables. I will stick to this atm and try to persuade one of my programmer friends to make an object for this.
