Connecting a phantom-powered microphone

#1

What would be the best way to connect a phantom-powered microphone?

Would it be best to use something like a Behringer Micropower PS400 and an XLR-to-mono-jack cable, or is there a better way?

(I saw https://sebiik.github.io/community.axoloti.com.backup/t/connecting-a-microphone/247 but figured this warrants its own topic)

The best way? Use a standalone mic preamp, and connect its line out to Axoloti Core. Or a (small) mixer, tapping the amplified microphone signal from the insert.

Behringer Micropower PS400 and an XLR-to-mono-jack cable: I have not tried. It won't do justice to a quality condensor microphone. How good/bad depends of the internal electronics of the microphone.

Thanks, that makes total sense.

I didn't quite realize the 'microphone level' signal must be brought up to 'line level' - indeed getting a dedicated device for that (plus providing the phantom power) sounds reasonable.
