Anyone for Machina Bristonica, Bristol UK?

#1

I've been looking forward to this for a while, looks like a good one day event for electronic music in Bristol.

#2

Yeah looks really nice.

Was just checking flights from Denmark, unfortunately there are no flights Saturday and Sunday from my city.

Damn. Would have loved to come to this event.

#3

I'm hoping someone from Novation will help me understand how my SL MK III works...

#4

Just checked it out. Looks cool, but pretty advanced.

Did you check some of the tutorials on YT?

That is usually a good place to start

#5

Yes I did, the youtubes don't go far enough and probably I just have to spend more time with the manual.

The sequencer is a bit more limited than I hoped, but the ability to control various instrument parameters is really great.

#6

I am sure you will get some nice stuff out of it. I just saw the Bobeats video. It definitely got a lot of features. Love the scaling/filter feature for key input, the key splitting, where you can play split the keyboard up so you have access to several instruments at the same time. Not sure how it works with playing more sequences one after another, to create longer sequences. Thats kind of important thing too. But overall it looks like a pretty need tool

About sequencers one of the companies that makes decent sequencers is Elektron. They are pretty cool.

I had both an Octatrack and a Digitakt, both were pretty decent

Yep, thats what I haven't figured out, how to get the longer sequences. It seems one is limited by it, you can't just assign a sequence to a pad as with a clip launcher. So anyway I got beatmaker 3 on the iPad and I will probably use that for clip launching.

The Novation has a lot of modes and I haven't had the time to really grok how to use them all together.

Is there really no way to chain sequences?

That is a bummer.

#9

There must be a way but I haven’t figured it out yet. You can chain 8 of the 16 step sequences as far as I can tell, and each sequence can simultanously control 8 voices. That seems a bit limiting to me, but I might be missing something. Also there is the potential for future firmware upgrades, I guess the limit will be the available memory they have installed in there.
