AMD and Linux Question regards Axoloti Patcher

#1

Is anyone aware of any specific reason why the Axoloti patcher might not run on an AMD RYZEN 7 Pro with VEGA 10 graphics when running under Linux?

Hopefully no one is, I'm just checking cause that's the CPU/GPU combo I'm interested in, and it appears to be well supported under Linux.

There should be no reason why it wouldn't.

Can you say what is the issue you are having? Which distro are you using?

Thanks for the response, dreamer, though no technical issue here, I don't even have it yet. I'm just checking before I buy in case there's some known reason I'm not aware of why it would not work. An AMD RYZEN 7 Pro With VEGA 10 for the graphics (a laptop APU) is the best I can go for, so just wanted to make sure it would actually run the patcher under Linux.

I suppose I'd use Ubuntu MATE for my distro, cause I really liked using it on the RPI.

Hello @axoman,

I've used the patcher on several linux machines without any issue.
I use Xubuntu because it is crazy fast but I've used also Mate and it is a very good distro too.
The patcher is a Java application so there are no reason why it shouldn't work on linux.

Just follow the instructions, that are easy and well written.

Cheers lodevalm!

Looks like I'll be going for it then although it won't be until next week. Only thing I have to look into now is how those new BIOS systems work. I had a normal BIOS on my previous machines, but I keep reading about the BIOS getting in the way with the new ones.

The machine doesn't have an optical drive, so I'll have to pick-up a USB stick with a distro on it. I want to make sure that from the first boot, it never gets chance to boot into Windows as it has Windows 10 Pro on it.

Hey @axoman,
sorry for the late reply, I didn't get notified of your reply...
Ah, the BIOS! Is a nightmare! I know.
Usually I wipe-out the microsoft partitions from the disks and I disallow the "Secure boot" from the BIOS.
Every bios has it own "flavor" to make the linux users' life hard but you can find tutorials...

To make a bootable USB stick I suggest you to use Unetbootin:

Before uninstalling Windows you can give a try to different distros and decide the one that fits better your needs.

Good look and have fun
