Is there a place I can pick up 5v off the axo pcb?
I see J2/3 has it, but I'm assuming this is only present if powered from a power supply rather than USB?
(id prefer it to be present however the axo board is powered)
5v pickup on pcb?
Actually there is, you know the spot where you can cut away the midi section from the rest of the axo, then there are the points you can join once separated, two of these points are 5V and GND, I have used them before to power a device and it worked perfectly. I don't have my details with me, but there is a post somewhere that confirms which point is which.
Forgot to add, yes the 5v works when supplied via the USB micro input.
In fact I had once the Axo powered by the usb micro, tapped into the 5v for powering a midi controller, then used the usb hub to power an external effects unit that could be powered by USB.
It all worked perfectly.
cool, these are J2/3 (actually JP2/3) I was referring to, I just wasn't sure if they were 'live' when usb was powered.
this is perfect, as I can solder header pins there, which will be useful if I decide to split the board as well.
ok, time to heat up the soldering iron
(hmm, why is there no soldering emoji !)
Its a pretty cool point to tap into, if it wasn't live with USB connected there would be no midi through the dins. What I am not sure, is if the ground is connected to the ground on the GPIO pin sets. If it is not, then you need to keep it separated.
id assume a common ground, but in my use case, its convenient anyway to take the gnd/5v together and separate gnd/3.3v
Ive done an initial test and all looks good, tomorrow some software and hardware patching
