4 - 5 November 2016 - radical dB showcase - Zaragoza

#1

Hi,
Just a short message to say that I'll be performing on the 4th November during the radical dB showcase event, in Zaragoza, Spain.
I'll only be using my 5 Axoloti boxes (and a few midi controllers). I'll do a short talk after the performance, about the Axoloti's and the different ways that they can be used.
It open to anyone, and it's free. There will be some other very interesting performers too, all with original instruments or controllers.

Here's the link to the event : http://radicaldb.es/

If anyone from the forum is going, please introduce yourself, it would great to talk.

For those interested, it was great. Talked a lot about the Axoloti and they all seemed to have enjoyed the performance.
I had the heart pulse sensor plugged onto my ear, and it controlled all the sequencers :
Here are a few photos of the Gig setup as well as the full performance video.

I also met Piers from Holland (a very nice guy), who is the creator of the striso and strisoboard, and I was lucky enough to buy his 2nd strisoboard ever made to help beta-testing the firmware and enjoy having a MPE controller in my life (a whole new world). He also had a couple of axoloti, including one that he got before the official release, so it had quite a few things missing (but it's probably quite rare, so it got me excited)

I watched this video (yesterday I think) and loved the sounds you were getting, were these all made solely with the axoloti? or were other synths/fx used?
thanks for the pictures, as I spent the whole video, hoping they were going to change the camera angle so I could get a better look at your controllers

anyway, fantastic achievement, I love what your doing with Axoloti... keep posting your events, hopefully I'll drive up and listen to you live and meet you one of these days

Pretty dope performance indeed, would have loved to be there. Piers Titus is a pretty chill guy. Did he get is controller workable with axoloti? He and Johannes tried to do that at Music Tech Fest but couldn finish it in time. I really envy you for having one

My favorite is the ondes matenot/ theremin / touchstrip synthesizer. What kind of touchstrip is that? A softpot? Did you hook it up directly to the gpio?

Keep up the good work and good luck with the strisoboard

P.S. Just see your videos with strisoboard + axoloti. nice nice really expressive and organic!

@mtyas also just seen your strisoboard + axoloti board video , fantastic

I really like the strisoboard , looks to have a really nice form factor, perfect for chilling out on the sofa with - well done to @pierstitus

quick question... I can see the striso has pressure, and another video shows pitchbend, do the buttons also have a 3rd dimension, for use as 'timbre'.

@thetechnobear Yes all sounds and effects are produced by the axoloti. I only put a tiny bit of a hall reverb on the mixing desk to round the angles.
Sorry about the camera angle, I only had one camera in my bags, so I did a fixed angle shot.
I'll try and do walk-through video of all the different boxes and patches being used sometime this week.

I'll continue posting future events here, and I'd love to met you some day. If ever you want to come on holiday some day near the Pyrenees, you're welcome. We could get into some serious jamming sessions together

Concerning the strisoboard, Yes, each button has velocity, pressure, pitch bend from side to side and "timbre" (or anything else) from top to bottom. It also has a motion sensor, but the firmware isn't addressing it yet. I can't wait to use it at it's full potential as soon as the new firmwares get delivered

@Blindsmyth Yes Piers was working hard during the days of the event to give me a working firmware, and sent me a good working one two days ago, unluckily for him, he got his laptop stolen on the last day of his stay, and lost the last updated source-code . But I'm sure he'll find the solution again as his head if full of so much, and no one can steal that.
Concerning the ribbon synth, yes I used two ribbon sensors one on the other (you can find the references on this post. They are plugging strait into 3 Gpio's with a few resistors (two Gpios for dual position information, and one for pressure)

Thanks for watching the video and sharing your thoughts. It's amazing how I've dived into the axoloti world this last year, and I'm enjoying everyday of it. Thanks to all of you on this forum for all your help and hard work. Each day of your work gives me days of pleasure and enjoyment, so thanks again to all of you.

I promise to try and do a nice video showing the setup I used, and the different synthesis that one can hear on this performance.

P.S (living a surreal time listening to the US elections, and hearing "How can't always get what you want" as music after Donald's victory speech )

So I've done a video showing the different axoloti boxes used on my last gig, hope someone finds it interesting.

wow, thank you @mtyas , that was fascinating, Im amazed at what you have achieved ,and also that you can remember what each knob/button does, and the interconnections!

really inspiring ... Im going to watch again tomorrow, which will fire me up for the weekend to really get my axo's singing

Thank you.

Thanks
i only remember what is what because that's all I've been working on (and playing on) for the last 4 weeks, and I put names on the paper labels
As I don't do many performances yet, I make the point of creating a whole new setup for each gig, so I have quite a few paper strips glued onto my wall (in case I want to use them again)
The only definite markings on the boxes are Gpio names (and midi #cc for the controllers)

For interconnections, this setup was quite sober, I've done a few with clocks going everywhere, as well as analog gpio out that can be plugged into whatever I want (like a modular synth) and midi din's (with the Zaquencer on a BCR2000) and midi usb's, it all got a bit confusing, but worked well.
My next aim is to have more different kinds of sensors, light, distance, temperature, humidity and more or less whatever I can find, and multiply the ransom'adness

Anyway, thanks for watching, and glad you enjoyed it
