Next-gen and mini Axoloti hardware discussion

#511

Yep, the Axoloti is quite powerful already ! One can run some heavy & complex patches on the little board, impressive.
Still, Akso's 32MB of SDRAM make it really interesting, especially for processing much larger samples / tables : that's 4 times the original Axoloti's SDRAM...!

I placed an order for the Akso but only afterwards realised it is not shipping and there is no estimate to when it will be. I totally understand one guy with a day job can't make progress on everything as fast as they would like but would really appreciate some kind of guess about the date. Based on this thread it was ready to be shipped July 14th?

Hey guys

So what's the status now?

Did people get their Akso yet?

#514

I don't think many have been shipped. I received one in September.

@tele_player

Ah okay

So what's the actual status?

Is it running as well as the original one?

How much can you push the RAM and CPU?

Really curious about the performance. The old Axo just had a tiny bit too little dsp for me to make full songs on a single axo, witg good quality objects.

Did you do some tests? Like running a patch that was just on the limit of the old Axo and then throw in a bunch more stuff?

#516

I haven’t used it much. The software is a work in progress: not as complete and functional as Axoloti 1.0, not as broken as 2.0.
I have not done comprehensive testing, but the CPU is much faster, which is obvious from CPU load when the same patch is loaded on both boards.

#517

Cool, that's nice to know, thanks

Guess I'll keep an eye on what goes on

#518

I've started doing a tutorial series on YouTube about it. I haven't done anything really processor intensive yet, but what I have done seems to use only a tiny fraction of the available processor. I'll try with my grain mangler and see what it does!

#519

Thanks that sounds great

Is it just running the original patcher or is it a modified version?

What about tables and delays and so on? Audio playback from SD card? All that stuff working?

#520

Modified patcher.

I was going to try to design something processor-intensive, but maybe you have a patch I should try out instead? I'm trying to remember what the patch was that I wrote and ran the processor up into the high 90s immediately.

#521

@urklang Hello! Any chance can you ship from Europe? Customs fees are a pain for orders outside the EU...

Thanks

Mutable clouds I think It was pretty intensive, also Lmnts reverb.
Add some polyphony with braids oscillators and you got already something that would be quite intensive
