MIDI control for Zoom MS pedals [still WIP]

#21

Well that explains why I never found out about this despite having a multistomp for years and lamenting the lack of midi input  Can't wait to try this out.

Oh, this is brilliant! Really looking forward to trying this out!

I have been collecting various sources of Zoom sysex and my own reverse engineering here - https://github.com/shooking/ZoomPedalFun

I have also made a few YouTube videos on what I am doing. The aim is to take people thru the reverse engineering because Dave Smith mandated Sysex should be published for each machine (I was there in the 1980s) - so if Zoom won't publish it we should be able to reverse it.

Mainly I have been working with Mungewell's zoom-zt2 but came to this independently with some complementary findings.

All collaborations welcome. Or ping me on the YouTube and I will try to answer.

Will be working on either next phases of Ctrlr gui or stand alone Python. The plan is to use a 22" touchscreen with Raspberry Pi4 - my poor old eyes can't see the pedal that well.

I am also playing with a B1XOn - if I can get a cheap MSxx I will get one too.

Hope this is useful for anyone with a B1XFour/G1XFour/B1Xon.
Often times the sysex is very similar between the pedals. I'd changes, the odd command prefix.

cool, thanks!
i paused this project at the moment for two reasons – 1) got several Korg NTS-1 units which are basically 3-slot multiFX with MIDI-controllable performance parameters; 2) Axoloti appears to be rather abandoned, and its future is uncertain. i only have 2 boards, and they are busy with more crucial jobs. if Cores will ever be in stock again, i'll maybe resurrect some more projects like this.

This is interesting development! I wrote off most Zoom fx boxes because of no midi. How well does the MS70CDR cope with CC/sysex modulation...zippering much? Smooth delay time modulation?
My dream would be to be able to tap in to a Boss GT-001 via USB midi (and in roland good ol tradition not class compliant) on the Axoloti. It seems to be possible running raspberry pi via hacked Roland linux driver built in to the linux core (but i would rather run it from axoloti)...Probably much work to reverse engineer the roland midi protocol and way over my head...maybe doable via sysex...GT-001 can be found for cheap now and are basically the same as a GT-100. 8 assigns for midi to almost any FX parameter, with LFO's and envelope follower, simple envelopes and loads of Boss FX...but no MIDI DIN ports on the GT-001  ...a bit off topic about the GT-001. But i hope you can find time to finish the Zoom stuff, it seems like a really cool pedal...esp with the hack that includes ALL zoom FX in one box. Following this thread with interest.

Forgot to mention the WIKI holds the write ups.
I aim to add more summaries and more details for anyone who wants a deeper dive.
