Is Axoloti over?

#1

I didn't see much updates from the developer , is it still posible to buy new boards ?
Curious if the patcher will get updates or its falling into a discontinuation.
Hope he is still alive :frowning:

#2

Johannes is alive and kicking!!
I've even seen a new Axoloti, powered by a powerful Cortex M7 chip, with loads of new features...
The problem is supply chain. It's impossible for the moment to produce new or even 'old/current' Axo's for the moment...
Let's hope things get 'normal' again soon at least on the production side of things....

Future of Axoloti
What would be required to build patcher for browser

Amazing news!
A little patience for such a great project is the least we can have, I'm sure a lot of people will be interested in the new version!

#4

Wow that is super great news! Imho Axoloti is still the best of all the DIY dsp options. Even if there was no new boards coming I would still use it till my boards die

#5

You mean a new Axoloti from Johannes the man himself Taelman ? or this wanna be version ? https://zrna.org/akso
This Akso did not seem to get far .
Anyhow happy to hear that he is still alive , was really worried in a way
Also seeing this forum still in HTTP and the offictial page as well made me wonder how long without updates & posts from him

#6

Yes sure same , just worried that stuff starts to break at some point . Did anyone tested on the new M1 macbooks for instance ?

#7

I'm running it smoothly on my M1. Installation is a bit of a pain but for the rest everything is perfect.

#8

Yes a new one from the man, the legend

The other 'Akso' seems dead to me...
I have 2 boards from him (Nicolas) but I heard he had big troubles scaling up production, so the project seems abandoned...

Anyway I'll see Johannes soon &
report back once I did.
Maybe he'll let me post a picture of the new board here!

In the meanwhile... Merry Christmas fellow Axolotl's

#9

Hi, everyone,

sorry for not being around those days.
Nice to hear that Johannes is still active .

Have a merry Christmas

#10

Great news! Wouldn't have hurt to be informed that production is stopped because of supply chain problems though. @AndrewChi can't you convince Johannes to post occasional updates on the forum so it doesn't always look like the project is slowly dying?

Nothing barely compares with the Axoloti.

The Daisy is theoretically more powerful but it has many flaws that are not seriously addressed by its creator (digital hiss)

The Akso is also in an unknown state of evolution.

In the meantime i switched back to studying Verilog and FPGAs for synthesis (which is complicated) ..

that's why i'm not around here very much even if the Axoloti is still my favorite platform.

Super cool news everyone . I'm happy and thrilled to see the new one , and see if we do a step further on the patcher.

Also surprised that given the situation , the axoloti boards didn't augment in price astronomically from second hand owners , this speaks really positively about the community , which is not usually the case for other golden products that get discontinued or limited .

#13

Maybe I'm too sceptical, but I personally don't easily believe claims of forum-members that they have" talked to", "skyped with", or even "met with" Johannes. While Johannes himself hasn't posted here since december 2019, and in that year he posted only a couple of times about the new 2.0 release, and since then: silence and no explanation of this absence.
Let's suppose it is true that Johannes is in fact working hard on a follow-up to Axoloti, be it hard- or software. Would he then not have a large interest in keeping this community alive, by posting every now and then about what he was developing and about the progress? As far as I can see many members here are gradually turning to other platforms, and I am very sorry to see this happen, though it is completely understandable. It is just not rational that he would let this forum bleed to death if he was developing some successor.
I certainly hope I am wrong, because what Johannes created was magic and he is a genius. And I hope we can go on making great things with his invention or even with an updated Axo. But right now I don't see any hopeful or credible signs of that.

#14

I agree with this, 100%. Unfortunately, for a lot of reasons, I think Axoloti is doomed.

#15

I did receive my two last orders during this summer, so I am hopeful that manufacturing will continue after the crisis (if it ever ends).

It really is the most flexible audio tool I ever owned, I love it so much.

#16

A collaboration with Sparkfun, Adafruit or another "Makers Generation / DiY" company would be reassuring.

#17

hope axoloti continues, even if it only would continue without udate.

#18

Oof! It would be such a let-down, if the Axoloti is getting abandoned and slowly fade from relevance. There's so many possibilities this thing has. But a striving community is what's keeping me engaged first and foremost in using it. Seeing no new updates about the Axoloi and not that much activity in the forum or anywhere already made me kind of turn away from the Axoloti and only plugging it back in occassionally.
So yeah, I really hope there's gonna be some news soon and some sort of Axo-resurrection.
Have a good start into the new year all!
Looking forward to any updates and posts here!

I've begun seeing people selling off overstock of components (FPGAs, actually) that were greatly delayed and had finally arrived, after the manufacturer had already switched their supplier/FPGA model used in the design.

that might not mean anything but I take it optimistically as the first gasp in a hopefully recovering semiconductor supply chain.

To echo a few others here, I really am rooting for a revival or continuation of the axoloti in some form (if only spiritually). This little board was the beginning of my journey in synth diy, programming, electronics, and I haven't stopped since the day it arrived.

I hope too.

At a moment, before the crisis, the FPGA market has been distorted because of some FPGA being used for cryptocurrency datamining.

Hope this is not related to this phenomenon but to a global resolution of the crisis.
