How to create long envelopes?

#1

Hi all,

What's the best way to patch really long envelopes? Like say an AHD with an attack of 2 minutes, hold of 15 minutes, decay of 5 minutes.

Thanks

Steve

Hi Steve.

Don't have an answer to your question, but good to see you here

The env/ahd has a bit of a weird parameter scaling, something I'd like to fix in the future, but the puzzle is avoiding to break existing patches.
The A/D parameters can be adjusted in smaller than 0.5 unit increments by mouse if you hold shift (0.05 unit increments) or even finer if you hold ctrl-shift (0.01 units). You can also make more precise adjustments by entering a value on the keyboard (like 63.995) followed by enter to accept (press escape to cancel). Only 2 digits of the dial position will be shown, but more will be used (and saved). At a certain point you'll also bump into numerical precision errors, and the time corresponding to the dial position shown in the object will no longer correspond.

Adding a 'slow' toggle that defaults to 'off' could be a good option?

Just a note, the Axoloti's AHD is actually a misnamed AR envelope, so for a hold time of 15 minutes you'd just need a gate that stays high for 17 minutes (2 minutes added for the attack) and the decay only comes after the gate goes low (which I would consider a release). I'm not sure if there is an actual AHD in the sense I would mean by it (with a hold time parameter and a decay that starts after the hold time is finished regardless of the gate).
