Direct analogue path?

#1

Continuing the discussion from Might have fried the output of Axo:

Oh wow, that's really cool. Is this functionality currently accessible with some configuration object I've missed? If not, is it just a question of it not being implemented yet or is there something in the hardware design that prevents this?

#2

I implemented some time back and put in the community lib

Audio Input any other options than Thru?
#3

Excellent, thanks! I didn't find that, must have been using the wrong search terms. Does this allow any kind of switching while the patch is live?

#4

What's your motivation or the context, why do you want to do this?
Do you hear a difference in sound quality between analog pass-through and A/D->D/A? Or is the latency (around 2 milliseconds) an issue?
I'd prefer to avoid "live" convertor reconfiguration to avoid future issues with maintaining compatibility.

#5

The context is using it as an effects processor that can be bypassed.
I can't say I've been perceiving a problem with latency or quality, it just seems to make sense to avoid the extra A/D-D/A conversion if the option exists. I totally understand if there's a reason it's not a good idea though. At least this allows a direct dry path for 'send' style effects, switchable direct path would just be nice for 'insert' style effects to be bypassed.

for me, I primarily use this as a way to chain axolotl's together... so minimum latency is important.
otherwise the last in the chain would have 3x 2ms... so 6ms is perceptible. a low tech solution till we have digital audio between axoloti

not really thought about it for pedal dry/wet, I suppose it could be used for that, though you would have to be careful with matching gain levels. the codec only supports a few levels, so mixing dry/wet, I don't think is practical.

but I can see a simply bypass might be useful, so you could switch it in/out, when out you do the levels in the patch. the might be really useful if your switching patches... eg. bypass effect, load new patch, switch in new patch ... that way you wont loose audio.

not quite sure in practice how much id use this, Ive a mixer in the studio, and am planning on getting a small portable one for outside... so id probably do this on the external mixer.
