Berna 3 or... the RAI Studio di Fonologia for Axoloti

#1

Hi folks,
I'm taking into serious consideration the idea of porting Berna (inspired by the RAI Studios) to Axoloti. I'm already coding some parts and looking for CPU performance while building the Lietti's devices. I have schematics and I know those instruments quite well

This patch will be useful in electro-acustics music history classes to show the ACTUAL problems and goods in such composing environment, in a "hands on" realistic experience.
Beside the synthesis tools simulated, the tapes might be both digital or actual.
My suggestion would be to use the Axoloti along with an real tape recorder such as a Revox B77 or a Nagra IV or III or any 1/4" tape recorder with direct access to heads. That is a perfect compromise of realism. Cassette is a nice idea but a pain if you want to edit them with scotch tape.

As you will see the RAI studio lacks automatism. but synthesis-wise it's still a good playground for students interested in Italian electronic music.
With my surprise, Berna has become in years a software used in a number of applications and by such great musicians and people, that I am often left speechless and amazed.
I can proudly quote names like Curtis Roads, the BBC Radiophonic Workshop, Ben Frost, who loved and used this crazy work made on Max6.
Now It's time for a new version, at least a porting, a free patch for the community of Axoloti.
I hope this will help Johannes and the Axo project.

It will take a bit of time, but, it's already started...
Anybody interested in (eventual) coding of special objects, let me know.

Very interesting and inspiring project. Can the Axoloti cope with all that architecture?

#3

Theoretically yes, I am optimist.

So is the patch coming out or what? Ha! Long-time Berna fan here, excited to try it on the Axo.

sorry a little job emergency....
I will publish the patch asap next week

Looking forward to this patch and experimenting with the Axoloti. I was also curious as to what book contains these photos? I have looked high and low for a book about the Studio di Fonologia and have come up empty. This appears to be in English as well. Bonus!

Hello Giorgio,

Any news on this? Keen on trying it out!

Really interested in the version 3! I have used v1 and 2 for sometime! They are great! a version on axolotl would be really amazing.

hello @Tobor, are you still planning to port of Berna to the axoloti? I saw your post about update of glitch lab on your site so you must be busy, but I'm thrilled about the idea of a berna on the axolotl.
