Beefing Up a Simple Synth?

#1

Attached is the simple synth I have set up as a poly sub patch on my main patch:

SimpleSynth.axp (9.4 KB)

Its got some great sounds and I have it set up in my main patch for direct access to Volume/Filter/Envelope/Envelope Mix/Rlease. It can get some really nice sounds but I think in general it sounds very weak, almost Melodica like a lot of the times

Any ideas on how I can give it a bit more power or grit? Ive tried turning the oscillators down but that that more just drops the octaves I guess instead. I also tried adding a sub-octave by (i think) using the math/divide twice into a second osc (I think I saw someone else here do that).

I dont know a ton about synths so I can't quite pinpoint what I am missing...maybe an eq to cut some highs and boost the mids could help?

You could try with a little bit of saturation? Some eq maybe? A compressor?

Hmm a combo of saturation and an eq to boost the mids could probably help a bit, thanks! Didn't think of a compressor, will give that a shot too, maybe even just move my axo to before the compressor I have on my effects board instead of after now that Im taking my effects loop through the axo out

Also found some wavetable synth patches on here, going to give them a shot as well maybe i'll just like them better - still pretty new to the synth stuff

Yeah just try out different stuff from the library and see what you like.

There is a lot to choose from

Definitely going to start trying out a bit more now that I know what I am looking for!

Digging this wavetable synth found on the forum - https://sebiik.github.io/community.axoloti.com.backup/t/beefing-up-a-simple-synth/5155/4

Going to try it out later see what I can steal haha

You can also mix slightly detuned oscillators to get a fatter sound.

To slightly detune an osc you can press ctl+shift while click dragging the mouse over the knob. Or you can click the knob and type in a value (for example 0.05).
