Audio rate gain?

#1

hi,
i am trying to amplify a 40 hz sine using the gain/vcf object. the trouble is that the vcf creates a buzzing noise when moving the gain factor. is there an object i've missed which has audio-rate amplification? so that there's no buzzing noise?
i've attached a test patch.

i've tried using a dial connected to an audio rate lowpass filter and a math * object but that hasn't worked. does anybody know how to fix this?

cheers!sine 40 hz test.axp (1.3 KB)

Maybe try the math/gain red version?

#3

cheers, but the math/^c (red version) has the same problem... :worried:

#4

you mean vca, right?
what will the modulator be in the end? you can use a smooth object between source and vca input to get rid of abrupt changes. if you trigger from a keyboard gate, use an ahd or adsr to get click-free behaviour.
hope this helps

math/* is not the correct object to use, since it does not interpolate the blue signal.
gain/vca interpolates the signal instead, so the buzzing must come from somewhere else. If you control the gain manually with the mouse try using math/smooth or maybe math/glide

ah, thanks sputnki. this solved it mostly. i thought when the vca interpolates it'll smooth the value jumping automatically. the math/smooth object solved it. (was changing the gain via the mouse on screen).

fantastic.

cheers.
