Advantage of using native hardware over external midi?

#1

Hi, I just got my Axoloti & it's incredible. Exactly what I was looking for so far.

I'm curious if soldering analog pots to the pins can/will yield a higher resolution than a 0-127 midi controller.
What advantages are there in using native hardware to external midi other than freeing up a midi port?

The analog data has a considerably larger range (32 bit) so yeah, your resolution is going to be a bit higher than on midi (7 bit). I think this is the primary advantage of using the pins vs. midi.

The gpio/in/analog object says it's 12-bit. Am I missing something / is there a higher res object within the patcher?

Sorry, you are correct, I was thinking internally. 7 bit v. 12 bit still stands though
